For years, my grandmother had been making peanut brittle for friends and family. One year, she even entered it into the local county fair, and won (from what I’ve been told). After she passed away in 2009, my grandpa, who loved her peanut brittle, wanted some to celebrate the holiday season. A few family members tried to make some, and I decided to give it a shot. After all, I’ve always enjoyed cooking and this seemed like a good challenge. After 1 batch that was a bit over-cooked, my grandpa told me my second batch was perfect! Unbeknownst to me, I sort of became the peanut brittle maker in the family and have been making it ever since! This year, I got to share it with the patrons of the Celina Farmer’s Market, and it went over well! Between the market, friends, and family, I made a record 65 lbs this year, with a few more batches still needed to fulfill some post-Christmas orders. Next year, I hope to more than double that.
