On June 24th, we finally introduced our Pasture-Raised chicken to the Celina Farmer’s Market! We’ve been dreaming of this for quite some time, and after years of reading and research, and a few months of work, we’re happy to have chicken in the freezer. So why pastured poultry? Well, it allows the chicken to scratch, run, eat bugs, and do all of the things a chicken ought to do. Someone asked me recently if my chickens were grass fed. Well, not necessarily… Chickens aren’t meant to eat grass, just as you won’t see birds swooping out of the sky picking up blades of grass for digestive enjoyment. Rather, they’re looking for seeds, bugs, worms, and other high-protein items. Below is a great video by the American Pastured Poultry Producers Association about why pastured poultry is great!
